DENVER - Today, pursuant to her authority as acting Governor under the Colorado Constitution, Article IV, § 13, the Lieutenant Governor appointed Richard E. Schmittel, Jr. to the La Plata County Court in the 6th Judicial District. The appointment fills a new judgeship created pursuant to Senate Bill 25-024 and is effective July 1, 2025.
Mr. Schmittel is a Senior Associate at Robinson & Henry, P.C., a position he has held since 2024 and previously held from 2021-2022. His practice consists primarily of real estate and civil matters. Previously, he was Associate Corporate Counsel at American Auto Shield (2022-2024); Associate Attorney at Yates Law Firm, LLC (2018-2021); and Deputy District Attorney in Colorado’s 6th Judicial District Attorney’s Office (2014-2018). Mr. Schmittel earned his B.A. from Fort Lewis College in 2009, and his J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2013.
